PALAKKAD: Obesity is a baggage of the present lifestyle and Ayurveda is the best bet to fight it, says Punjabi-origin United Kingdom national Rupak Mann. And, nobody can brag about it better than her as she had shed 70 kg in 15 months through the century-old science Ayurveda.
Rupak Mann, who donned greasepaint for the Hindi film 'Nassar' directed by Mahesh Bhatt, could hardly walk when she landed in India, weighing 184 kg.
Once during Internet browsing, Rupak stumbled upon the site of Kairali Ayurveda Treatment Centre in the rural hamlet of Kodumbu near Palakkad.
It was then that she decided to drop the extra flab which has been tremendously bothering her.
She flew down to Palakkad and miraculously shed 70 kg within her 15-months stay here.
“It is not about controlling your diet alone but the whole routine, including Yoga and meditation turns you mentally fit to overcome health-related problems", Rupak asserts. The diet is purely vegetarian, less spicy and consist of fruits, dry Chappathi and cooked vegetables, she adds.
Rupak was not overweight until a personal tragedy broke her down. She began to smoke excessively and drink hard and gradually put on 184 kg. "My body could not stand my weight and I could hardly walk", she says.
In the United Kingdom, they adopt a 'quick fix' solution where they control the diet and crush the weight. This eventually contributes sagging flesh which is later surgically removed. But, here I could reduce 100 inches of my body fat, says an-elated Rupak. I regularly work out at the gym or cycle around 30 km which takes a full two hours in the morning, she adds.
