FEELING STRESSED OUT IS ONE OF THE BANES OFj modem day lifestyle. Our constant attempt to beat the clock and stay ahead takes a heavy toll on our mind and body. Yet we carry on mechanically dragging ourselves from home to work and back. It is only of late that we are waking up to the tremendous effect that stress can have on us. Although it has been established beyond doubt that most of the modem diseases are stress related, medical science has failed to address the issue effectively, despite the tremendous strides made by it. But surprisingly, all the ancient systems of healing had understood the mind-body 1 connection very well. Based on thousands of years of experience, these systems always 1 treated the human being in totality and proved much more effective in the long run. No wonder these so-called alternative therapies are proving to be extremely popular today. Ayurveda, the ancient system of healing which originated in India in the sixth centu¬1 ry BC has enjoyed a revival throughout the world. Its sound scientific base and holistic nature have made this therapy hugely pop¬ular. Kairali, with branches in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah, provides Ayurvedic ther¬j apy to a number of ailments besides improv¬i ing general well-being. According to Rekha, the Ayurvedic health expert of Kairali, Dubai: "Our system con¬sists of a series of natural and holistic therapeutic treatments that cleanse the body of toxins and increase vitality and well-being." Kairali was established in New Delhi, India in 1989 by KV Ramesh and Gita Ramesh, who hail from a family of traditional Ayurvedic physicians The overwhelming success of the centre encouraged them to start an elaborate Ayurvedic health resort in Palakkad (in Kerala) in 1999, to take people close to Nature. The first centre of Kairali in the UAE was opened in Sharjah, followed by Abu Dhabi and Dubai. Manoj, manager of Kairali'j; Dubai centre, says: "We offer basic Ayurvedic therapies to counter stress and promote general fitness." Kairali boasts a highly qualified team. Anju, who studied Ayurveda from Shree Shankara College at Kottayam (Kerala), takes care of the female clients at the Dubai centre.
